British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has received Level 4 certification from the World Lottery Association (WLA) for excellence in responsible gambling.

Level 4 is the highest level of certification granted by the WLA’s Independent Assessment Panel (IAP) under the Responsible Gambling Framework, and has been awarded to BCLC for the fourth consecutive time.

BCLC is one of 13 lottery jurisdictions in North America to receive the certification.

In its Evaluation Report, the IAP stated that BCLC’s Player Education program is “by far meeting the highest standards” in the industry.

The report also pointed to PlayNow.com, the company’s online gambling site, noting that its features are “well integrated in the general perspective of a global health approach.”

The lottery firm’s player-health programs Voluntary Self-Exclusion and GameSense were highlighted as exceeding industry standards, as well as its ongoing research initiatives. It has pledged to achieve the highest standards of care through evidence-based player-health programs.

“BCLC is committed to continuously assessing and improving our player-health programs,” said BCLC chief social purpose officer and vice-president, Player Experience, Peter ter Weeme.

“Obtaining Level 4 certification is an important endorsement of our strategy, as we work towards our goal that no one should be harmed by gambling offered by BCLC.”
