Atlantic City Casino’s total GGR last month was eight percent down from 2019 winnings. The Atlantic City brick-and-mortar gaming floor won $262.4 million in August.

In the $ 262.4 million total gross gaming revenue (GGR) winning, $198 million was generated from retail slot machines and $64.4 million from table games.

When sports betting and iGaming are included; the GGR of Atlantic City’s nine casinos totals $397.6 million. That is $58.8 million higher than the $338.8 million casinos made in August 2019 and a 17 percent increase from the pre-pandemic August 2019.

When NJ three-horse racetracks sportsbooks are included, the GGR balloons to over $427.6 million, meaning that the statewide GGR grew by 21.2 percent from August 2019.

The coronavirus pandemic prompted traditional gamblers at Atlantic City to migrate to internet casinos. New Jersey also benefited during the pandemic as the state already had full iGaming gambling in 2020.

Though online GGR flourished during the pandemic, iGaming revenue in Atlantic City’s nine casinos is not yet profitable, as the like land-based casinos, though somehow helped in compensating losses.

According to James Plousis, the chairman of the New Jersey Control Commission, the August GGR is a valuable insight into the trajectory of the gaming revenue following last year’s pandemic. Plousis believe that casinos can get back to 2019 levels.

“Tourists welcomed the opportunity to return to Atlantic City during the summer months. The casinos have an opportunity to continue building on that success and benefit from consumer interest in Atlantic City’s many offerings going into the fall season.”
