ACMA has long been trying to uproot illegal online gambling in Australia. New survey shows that Australians are gambling more despite the pandemic.

Online gambling activity in Australia increased in the first six months of 2021. Sports betting and race betting are legal in Australian. Other gambling activities such as casino and poker websites are illegal. Lotteries remained the most popular with Australian adults. Tabcorp is in process of demerging its lotterie and keno business arms.

ACMA is targeting illegal gambling operations. It warned Tabcorporation over what it alleged were unauthorized in-play wagers.

ACMA predicts increase in online gambling in the first half of 2021. One in 20 online gamblers is using offshore betting platforms instead of opting for the licensed ones at home. ACMA has banned 354 illegal gambling websites and 21 affiliate marketing sites.
