You know it’s far beyond the Os Man to be hypercritical, so in taking a look at Vegas Technology’s threesome of October games, the positive gets accentuated first.
Said positive among the trio is The Right Prize. While not immediately evident, this 5-reel 25-payliner is based on long-time game-show staple The Price Is Right. Wait, did the Os Man just write “based on”? Ah, let’s call a spade a spade: The Right Prize is the online slots version of the game show.
Symbols here include a happy MC (though not resembling Bob Barker or Drew Carey); the crowd cheering presumably as someone is called to “Come on Down!”; and even a take on the ubiquitous Turtle Wax (herein, “Turbo Wax”). The famous “A New Car” giveaways are represented by what appear to be the automotive star of “Hardcastle and McCormick,” for Jack Barry’s sake. And the SCATTER is that famous wheel that got many a hyperactive contestant into the showcase round.
Once three wheel symbols are tripped, the player advances to one of four bonus features, entitled Pick a Prize, Chip Drop, Spin to Win, and The Right Prize – all easily recognizable to those who’ve zoned in front of The Price Is Right. Top jackpot is $300,000 and you don’t even have to bid.
The Right Prize is clearly Vegas Technology’s winner this month: A seriously addictive game this is, though the Os Man spent some time spacing on those great TV moments. A Generation Xer’s method of wasting summer mornings has become an evening’s worth of fun online slots play. (Good thing the Os Man was winning money on this one...)
Unfortunately, the view isn’t so rosy with two other Vegas offerings, The Last King of Egypt and Magic Monkey, leading the Os Man to wonder if either the company is imposing impossible deadlines on its programmers or someone just simply isn’t trying very hard.
Essentially generic 5-reel 25-payline games, both Last King and Magic Monkey feature predictable symbols, the now seriously boring A-K-Q-J-10-9 run (whatever happened to fruit symbols and BARs, in the name of Bugsy?), uninspired animation, and the same old thumping, clicking sound effects that can be found on any Vegas Technology game.
Sure, some of the symbols on Magic Monkey are nice enough (love that banana, baby) the synth-like riff on a big win was enough to remind the Os Man a bit of Devo in their heyday, but this stuff is hardly special enough to make this game unique.
Fan of English Harbour and VIP Slots online casinos? Great! Do yourself a favor and skip right past these two to virtually head over to The Right Prize. And hope things get a little better in November. LCD ratings: The Os Man bids 7.5/10 on The Right Prize, Bob; Magic Monkey, 2.5/10; The Last King of Egypt, 2/10.
