Thaw in Canadian anti-gambling law?

Thaw in Canadian anti-gambling law?Today, Canada sees the potential in the online casino industry and is taking steps to move into the online gambling market’s lucrative stream. For instance, Quebec has added an online gambling option to their provincial lottery. The Canadian lottery, Loto-Quebec, along with other pro-gambling initiatives, are setting the stage for an undeniable Canadian thaw in anti-gambling law protocol.

Canadian history, in regards to gambling, first established laws forbidding the practice in the late 1800s. In time, the laws became more relaxed and specific games slowly were reintroduced as acceptable. Those games include lotteries and now online poker. In Canada today, all types of land-based gambling is allowed, with no restrictions, including provincial and national lotteries. However, there are restrictions in place that leave the Canadian people at a disadvantage to use the industry to their full benefit. Rules that apply in Canada include that local online casino operators are unable to cash in on the multi-billion dollar industry while no rules restrict North American citizens from playing.

The ice that is being chiseled away in respect to laws on gambling involve providing gambling operators better, cleaner access into the circuit for marketing their online gambling businesses. Laws are being devised as to who and how affiliates can obtain licenses in Canada. The changes will eventually give Canadian players more selection in what sites they can choose to play at. For the Canadian operators, however, the floodgates of competition will follow and force those businesses to produce more and more appealing promotions and bonuses in order to survive; this of course is good for the players but not so good for the businesses.

The pros and cons are different for the operators and for the Canadian public. The citizens and government of Canada see the online gambling industry as holding the potential to add millions of dollars to the Canadian economy. A stronger economy means better healthcare and more jobs, and for most open-minded individuals, the benefits far outweigh the false claims that gambling is wrong or irresponsible. People enjoy games from sports to card games and many also enjoy betting, far be it from the country they live in to stop them.
