It is an interesting time for the gambling industry, with national-level changes taking place on either extreme all over the world. While many European countries are following the model created by the French in 2010, i.e. allowing online casino and sportsbooks to operate within national borders if awarded a license by the federal government, others disallow citizens from playing anywhere except at a given monopolistic outlet. Meanwhile, the U.K. has had the world's most liberal online gaming policy in place for nearly a decade with little change or problem.
And in the US, things are more confusing than ever, most recently manifesting in the arrest of managers of several big-name poker websites which are happily allowed advertising on cable networks such as ESPN. Just to the north, Canada seems to be implementing regulated online gaming ... but one province at a time.
