Microgaming to release “Lord of the Rings” online slot gamesWe’ll surely being seeing the results of Microgaming’s latest foray into movie-based slots in 2010 and 2011, as yesterday the big company announced representatives had “signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, to create a series of cutting-edge, graphic rich video slots, based on the popular The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.”

Microgaming is clearly eyeing a piece of the big-money pie, as the “Rings” trilogy brought in some $3 billion in box office take internationally. And Hollywood-based slots like Tomb Raider and Hellboy have proven seriously successful for the software's online casinos.

And speaking of numbers, along with the news of the contract came some numbers from the Microgaming folks. The company has been averaging 60 game releases per year since inception and today powers more than 160 online casinos. Microgaming powers what is called the world’s largest progressive jackpot network, paying out over $265 million over the years; and in May 2009, the biggest-ever online jackpot winner scored a single payment win of $6.37 million from Microgaming.
