Howard Stern tunes into the PPA for National Poker Week

As an unmatched voice of controversy in radio, Stern has been a force in the lives of millions of Americans, remains an iconic personality and has been welcomed by the PPA with open arms. Alfonse D'Amato, former Senator and the Chairman of the PPA, released a statement this week saying, “I can't think of a more fitting way to kick off National Poker Week than having my friend, Howard Stern, become a member of the PPA.”
The radio waves of controversy are starting to be broadcasted this week throughout Congress on the issue of online gambling, specifically poker playing, in the hopes that poker will be allowed to join the ranks of legitimate and legal games in the US today. Advocates believe it is a freedom and a right to play and bet on poker and that the government has no business hindering people from playing it.
Representatives like Barney Frank are pushing legislation to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act that has found opposition since it was crafted in 2006. UIGEA is a bill that has allowed the UIGEA to seize bank accounts that hold payouts for US online poker players. Due to the popularity and prestige that Howard Stern has, his admittance into the PPA will surely bring worldwide attention to the cause of legalizing Internet gambling for the future. − written by Natalie Jaro
